Boracay Trip April 2011: Boracay = Jonah’s Shakes

When you say Boracay, the first thing that comes into people’s mind (except for beach) is Jonah’s Shakes.

Boracay is known for this yummy Jonah’s Shakes which make your trip there incomplete if you haven’t ordered one. My kids loved it. I like their style on how to pack for take out. They put it in a disposable bottle which makes it easier to carry and avoid spilling. This is perfect for the kids! They have tons of fruit shakes available.

We also tried their sandwiches which was sooo good too. I highly recommend this. Never leave Boracay without trying their famous shakes. You will never regret it. (*wink*)

Boracay Trip April 2011: The Famous D’ Talipapa in Boracay

D’ Talilpapa is probably one of the famous “must visit place” in Boracay. When Hubby and I went to Boracay last 2009. We had dinner here twice. So when we were in Boracay again last April, I made sure we get to try this again. Since we were with our two little girls, I don’t think buying seafoods at the market and then waiting for it for a while would be a good idea. The kids would be bored by then. So I decided to go there on my own and brought the cooked food to the hotel. At least I was able to buy properly while Hubby and the kids were enjoying at the pool, waiting for me.

I was glad I had my ME time too and was able to buy a couple of stuff for pasalubong. I did this while a restaurant cooked our food for 20 to 30 minutes. Yes, it was that fast!

Here is the list of what I brought:

- 1 Kilo of Crabs cooked as Chili Crabs
- 1 Kilo of Shrimps cooked as sinigang and buttered shrimps (Yummy!)
- Pork Liempo which was grilled

Would you believed that this was almost our entire meal while we were in Boracay? We ate this for 3 full meals. Everybody was happy with the food. The kids even ate on their own loving the fresh shrimps and the pork liempo.

Too bad we weren’t able to take a photo of the food anymore. But here are some from our trip to Boracay last 2009.

I’m so glad we didn’t dare miss this. It was definitely something I would try again if ever we will be in Boracay again. I highly recommend it!

Boracay Trip April 2011: Good Food and Wonderful View at White House Resort

I’ve mentioned here that food at the White House Resort was really good. The proof? We weren’t able to take photos of most of the food because we ate it immediately. HA!

Our First Lunch: We had chicken wings and puttanesca. I don’t know if we were just tired from our trip that I didn’t find the food that good. Although the Hubby liked it, but I found it just ok.

Our Second Lunch: We tried the huge cheeseburger since most of the guests were ordering this, Pansit Canton (my kids’ all time favorite) and salad.

Their Huuuuge Cheeseburger

The cheeseburger was surprisingly good. I think this one is their best seller. It was definitely huge but Hubby and I were able to finished it in a few minutes. We were that starving AND it was that good too.

The Pansit Canton was also good and tasty. The kids loved it!

Caesar Salad

Caesar Salad was just ok for me. The greens were not too fresh anymore. It was understandable since we were in the middle of an island. What do I expect, right?

Breakfast

Breakfast food at White House Resort were oh so yum!

Hubby’s favorite is Beef Tapa. He ordered this twice for breakfast. I loved it too. Their corned beef was also good.

Longganiza was my order on our last day, I was so happy with this, I wanted to order more. But of course, I had to watch my diet and decided to just wait until lunch time.

Every now and then we would order drinks which we found just ok. Their fruit shakes were fresh though and they would make it as soon as we ordered it. The kids and the Hubby had fun ordering as much drinks as they want especially during the “happy hour”.

Boracay Trip April 2011: Our Stay at the White House Resort

During our last trip to Boracay we stayed at the White House Resort for 4 days and 3 nights.

2067518910095243712yRcDpz_fs

It was recommended by my friend Joy (thanks Joy!). We were in Boracay during the Holy Week so I made sure I booked early. So, there were still a lot of rooms available 6 months before our travel date. I loved that they were very accomodating during reservations and were patient with my never ending inquiries. They answered right away through email and text messages. That’s why they were one of my choices since I was on a tight budget too. I had to really check the room rates thoroughly and they were one of the few resorts who gave me time to think and reserved our room until January. Yes, I had time to save for this. They also gave us 10 % discount for booking early

WE availed of the deluxe room for PHP6,100/night. It was a great location since it was just a few steps away from the pool and of course the beach. It was our first time at Station 1 and were so loving the perfect location. It was so quiet and serene, we didn’t feel the busyness of the Holy Week at all. I love the music at this resort too, no wonder, people would just hang around the restaurant or in front of the beach just to “chill”.

Here are a few photos around the area of White House Resort…

Here is the summarized version of my review of the resort:

- Room: It was clean and tidy and they would clean it up everyday. But everytime we turned on the airconditioner, moist is all over the place – floor, cabinets, and walls. The bathroom is also clean but I hope they clean it at least twice a day since we go in and out of the shower area right after swimming.

- Food: Food at this resort is a bit expensive. Although most of the food we ordered were good and tasty. Our breakfast was part of the package, we had beef tapa, corned beef and longganiza and all of these were great.

- Swimming Pool: This is what the kids truly loved! I liked that it’s not the typical tiled swimming pool. I think the kids stayed here more than they were at the beach. The depth of the pool was also perfect for my kids’ height. We all loved swimming here.

- Beach: All I can say is that nothing beats the beach of Boracay!

- Restaurant: I like the cabanas in front of the beach. Perfect for our lunches.

- Service: I would say their service sucks big time. My friends who recommended it couldn’t believed it either but I think they changed their management. First, they owed me a change after paying on our first day but totally forgot about it when we were checking out. They insisted that they already gave me my change. Oh well. I didn’t want to argue anymore.

Secondly, I asked for utensils, plates, and soup bowl, from one of the staff, that staff didn’t even bother to check their kitchen, she just flatly said that they don’t have a soup bowl. What?? I asked a different staff and she was able to give a large soup bowl.

Thirdly, while one of the staff was serving our rice, she was talking to someone on her cellphone! Wow! Some of the staff were good, some were not. I hope they would be consistent when it comes to service because I don’t think I would check in with them again if their service don’t improve.

Location wise, I would say this resort is perfect!

Boracay Trip April 2011: The Best Baby Back Ribs in Boracay

It’s been years since we tried Gasthof’s baby back ribs. The last time was on our honeymoon in Boracay last 2005. So when we were in boracay last April, we brought the kids to Gasthof so they could try the famous baby back ribs.

2763492720095243712YYnyOG_fs

Of course we ordered for the Gasthof Baby Back Ribs. It is the dish that started it all and became Boracay’s all time favorite for local guest and tourist. Succulent pork ribs cooked ’til tender in Gasthof’s very own special sauce.

We were right, the kids loved it to bits. Our first dinner at Boracay was stressed free. The kids ate on their own and we’re so behaved. We were so proud of them.

Gasthof has a new branch now, which is still in Station 2. It has a nice view of the beach which made us love it more.

I still recommend Gasthof – best baby back ribs in Boracay!

Boracay in July 2009: Seafoods Galore at D’Talipapa

Eating at D’ Talipapa was one of the highlights of our Boracay vacation. It was cheap considering that we ate kilos of lobster, crabs, and shrimps. And when I thought about it, I realized that we ate there all the nights in our stay! The rain didn’t stop us from going there. There floods all over too, but good thing there was a tricycle driver who were willing to bring us to the place. Nope, no need for rv towing, the flood was not that bad.

The concept here is that you buy seafoods at the market and then you bring to a restaurant who will cook and prepare the food for you. A few photos of the seafoods bought from the market.

We ordered rice and drinks from the restaurant. I can’t exactly remember how much the cooking fee was but I tell you, it was way cheaper than the restaurants in D’Mall or Station 2.

Look at me with that huuuuge lobster!

This is highly recommended especially for big groups. Seafoods were cheap and affordable. Definitely worth it!

Boracay in July 2009: Grilled Burgers at Bite Club

Hubby loves burgers so much that when we saw Bite Club in D’ Mall, Boracay, we immediately decided to have lunch there.

2341173960095243712AQYRSJ_fs

I ordered for Burgerella while Hubby ordered for The Bomb!

And of course potato wedges and fries on the side.

The burgers were huge but I was able to finish it. The patties were juicy but I couldn’t taste the mozzarella cheese. After the meal we were full but something’s lacking. We were looking for something more. And now I realized that we were probably looking for dessert!

The weather was getting hotter at this hour so we decided to go back to the hotel to take a nap.

Boracay in July 2009: Our Extraordinary Breakfast in Real Coffee and Tea Cafe

Well, I said extraordinary because I have never tasted an omelette with a pesto sauce ever!

2256545060095243712RcXYGe_fs
The Great White Omelette (php230)

It was sooo good I almost asked for the recipe. LOL! The photo above is the Great White Omelette. It has three eggwhites with onions, tomatoes and cheese. Then we added php30 for pesto. It was heavenly. I could eat that omelette for days!

I also ordered American Style Pancake.

2605507330095243712kHdtQe_fs
American Style Pancake (php100)

Which for me was just so so. Too bad they didn’t have much options on their menu except for toasted bread, pancakes, and eggs. We were looking for sausages, ham, and more but didn’t have that in their menu. The owner is probably a health buff, I assume.

Here are more photos of the cafe.

2868943750095243712Qmreek_fs

2851756870095243712syJfgQ_fs

It was not hard to find it. Located in Station 1, not very far from Station 2. I planned to go back there but we didn’t have time anymore. I was planning on trying their calamansi cake. Too bad.

I noticed that in Boracay, cash runs out fast. The prices were not expensive but when you see those lovely dresses and bathing suits you just want to shop and shop. And when you see those seafoods and steak restaurants you would want to try them all! When we go back to Boracay next year with the kids, I will have to get some payday loans so that I can shop all I want, try all the restaurants that look good, and enjoy our stay as long as we want.

Now, that sounds a real vacation to me!

Boracay in July 2009: Having Pizza and More in Aria

Yes, I’m still in “Bora fever” even if it’s been a month since we were there.

One of the unforgettable meals we had there was the pizza and mozzarella sticks in Aria.

2361537510095243712HhzVjk_fs

2162337690095243712FNUjcO_fs

Despite the very strong winds and the rain, we still managed to go and have our snacks in Aria. It was delicious as expected. It was our second time there actually and we still loved the food. The nice thing about this resto is that it’s in the middle of Station 2. A really good location.

The only thing shocking is that the price. For pizza and mozzarella sticks we had to pay around PHP700 ++. The ambiance is nice yes, but for that price for snacks? I don’t think it’s worth it. I mean there were other options that were cheaper especially around D’ Mall and I have to say tastes good too!

Because of the expensive snacks on our first day in Bora, I wanted to have a cash advance right at that moment. I realized that with that amount, we could have had two main meals already. These days cash advances are readily available for these type of occasions. How I wish I was able to apply before our trip because I read that it is very easy to apply. Oh well, definitely next time!

As for our Aria food, it was good but was definitely not part of the plan!

Boracay in July 2009: Steak and Rice at Big Mouth

2478967990095243712wjSlqC_fs

You can easily see Big Mouth because it is located right in the middle of D’ Mall. This restaurant is huge and there are a lot of options to choose from. From sizzling steak to sizzling seafoods. They also have the biggest halo-halo I have ever seen!

Both of us ordered steak and rice.

2522440230095243712GOPfIc_fs

2522440230095243712GOPfIc_fs

The steak was just ok. But since we were too hungry, we finished all of it. It was cheap too considering that it was steak we only had to pay around PHP500 for two steaks. This place was just ok, we didn’t go back here though since there were so many other restaurants that were better.
