SG/Phuket 2011 Trip: Food Trip in Singapore

Since our connecting flight to Manila was in Singapore, we stayed for one more night in my brother’s place in Singapore. I had only 2 hours before our flight back to Manila so I opted to EAT! Of course, I shopped a little at my favorite Bugis Junction, but afterwards, I just ate and ate and ate.

IMG_3329

First stop: Tori-Q. My favorite, chicken/pork/beef bbq. I would always buy this and eat while I shop. ♥

Yakitori is one of the most well-known food in Japan. Making our delicious Yakitori begins with inserting a stick into a few piece of fresh raw chicken. The sticks of chicken are broiled using machine, before being dipped into our specially formulated “Tare” (sauce). Finally the chicken are hand grilled till they are ready to be served to our customers!

Every stick of Tori-Q Yakitori is made using only the finest ingredients and hand grilled to perfection.

Second stop: Famous Amos cookies. I bought I think 400 gms for the kids! We all love these cookies.

Third and last stop: ToastBox for lunch. As usual, I had kaya toast, soft boiled eggs and kopi. It was a perfect lunch!

How I wish I could have tried more Singaporean food that day like chicken rice and Nasi Lemak but we were already running late. Hopefully next time! (*wink*)

SG/Phuket 2011 Trip: Our Last Day in Phuket

Guess what we did on our last day in Phuket? Of course, we made the most out of the beach!

It was a perfect way to make the most out of our last day in Phuket. We haven’t left Phuket yet, but we were already missing our laid back vacation. Hopefully when the time (and budget) permits, we would be able to go back to Phuket in the next few years.

SG/Phuket 2011 Trip: Overflowing Food at The Golden Kinnaree Restaurant

After the Phuket FantaSea Show, we decided to avail the dinner buffet at The Golden Kinnaree Restaurant. We were too hungry to look for other restaurants!

IMG_3239

So as soon as we were inside, we immediately went in line for the dinner buffet. So that explains why we didn’t have photos of the food and the buffet. Except this…

IMG_6157

Our photo of course! We were too hungry to mind especially the kids. The food was ok but a lot of viands in the buffet were spicy so the kids didn’t really enjoy it that much. Even their fried chicken has a certain spice that the kids couldn’t eat.

After dinner, this is the only moment when we realized that the restaurant was so huge and beautiful. Good thing we were the last ones to leave, at least we were able to take photos of the place.

The Golden Kinnaree Buffet Restaurant is Asia’s biggest restaurant, covering an area of over 5,000 sqm with the capacity to accommodate over 4,000 seated guests. It was inspired by 7 half-bird half-angels called the Kinnarees, whose story is depicted in the “Fantasy of a Kingdom” show. Guests from all over the world are invited to a Royal feast prepared and served by these mystical creatures, set against a background of the legendary Himmaphan Forest, where the Kinnarees are known to reside.

I would say we made the right decision in availing the buffet dinner! The experience was wonderful and I highly recommend it.

SG/Phuket 2011 Trip: The Phuket FantaSea Show

The Phuket FantaSea Show was intended for the kids but we were surprised that the adults also loved the show!

IMG_6223

Phuket FantaSea is the island’s biggest show. With trapeze artists, a cast of hundreds, performing elephants and other animals and an exotic storyline that blends tradition with fantasy you’ll have a wonderful evening out here. But the extravaganza doesn’t stop there as FantaSea also hosts one of the biggest buffets in Asia and is set in a theme park that offers carnival-like games, lots of shopping opportunities, a Palace of the Elephants, a Similan Adventure Centre several other food oulets. It’s spectacular, it’s extravagent, it’s impressive and great entertainment value for all.

The price of the show was on a bit of the high side but we were thinking of a once in a lifetime opportunity and we wanted to make the most out of our stay in Phuket. So on our last night, we watched the amazing Phuket FantaSea Show.

There were problems with the tickets we purchased. The agency where we booked our ticket specifically told us that it was a 9PM show but they actually booked us on the 7PM show, good thing we were early!

We were required to surrender our camera and cellphones since taking of photos inside the show was not allowed.

The show lasted only for a couple of minutes but I saw the joy that it has brought the kids. Who wouldn’t love a dancing elephant anyway!?

As soon as the show was finished, we took a couple of photos of the themepark. Everywhere was so pretty to look at!

SG/Phuket 2011 Trip: Our Spicy Thai Lunch in Kata Beach

The best thing about our lunch in Kata was that we had it near the beach. We just bought fried rice and pad thai from the street vendor and then we’re set!

IMG_3193

I was amazed at how this guy cooked our lunch in 2 minutes!

IMG_3195

IMG_3197

Although I specifically requested for the food to be NOT spicy, I guess that won’t be possible if you’re in Thailand! So here’s our fried rice…

IMG_3198

It sure was very tasty! And with a view of the beach…

IMG_3191

It definitely was the perfect lunch for all of us! ♥♥♥

SG/Phuket 2011 Trip: Dinner at Mama, The Restaurant

Another memorable dinner we had in Phuket was at Mama, The Restaurant in Kata Beach.

IMG_6028

IMG_6031

Unfortunately, I couldn’t remember what we ordered exactly except for the unlimited soup and salad, lobster, shrimps and fish.

IMG_6020 IMG_6023

I was so hungry then and more than willing to try anything! So a buffet of soup and salad were a treat.

IMG_6029

Funny, how I can remember the dinner as a quiet dinner considering we have 2 kids in tow. We were probably THAT hungry!

Loved the food here and the options! Service is great too!

SG/Phuket 2011 Trip: Loving the Sunset at Kata Beach

Everytime I see a beautiful sunset, I always feel the same way. I would always feel grateful and blessed to have been able to experience God’s creation.

I felt the same way when I had a glance at Kata’s sunset. It was one of the highlight of our trip in Phuket. It was mesmerizing, beautiful and unforgettable.

SG/Phuket 2011 Trip: Arriving Kata Beach

After we checked out Hotel Ibis, Patong, we hailed a cab and then off we went to Kata Beach. The moment we saw Kata Beach, it immediately gave us a different feel. When we compared it to Patong, Kata is quieter, cozier, less people and we all immediately fell in love with it.

While we were having a great time, I can’t help but remember the travel insurance that we should have gotten before our trip. Although it was too late to think about it now but I’m considering getting one in our future trips. If you want to check out what I’m thinking of getting, click this now. I’m sure if you are a traveller, you would want to avail of a travel insurance too!

Traffic in Kata was not too bad too compared to Patong. I think this place is perfect for kids, families and senior citizens. When we were at Kata Beach, we felt that we were really on vacation mode!

SG/Phuket Trip 2011: Our Last Breakfast in Patong

On our last day in Patong, we wanted to make the most out of Hotel Ibis so we decided to just stay in the hotel and swim in the pool. We didn’t have much time so I just bought food from the nearest restaurant. There were not much choices since it was early. I noticed that shops and restaurants in Phuket seemed to open very late.

IMG_3064

Anyway, here’s our last breakfast in Patong…

IMG_3066

Sausage with lots of scrambled eggs and fried rice. I love it that the typical Thai food includes a salad, yes, even for breakfast! No wonder Thais are very slim. (*smile*)

Now, I’m craving for salad. Boo!
