October 26 is a Holiday Plus November Holidays!

It’s time to plan for a getaway because there are long weekends coming up…

October 26 was proclaimed a holiday!

The Palace has declared Oct. 26, Friday, a regular holiday in celebration of the Islamic feast of Eidul Adha (Feast of Sacrifice).

“[E]idul Adha is one of the two greatest feasts of Islam,” Proclamation No. 488 said.

It commemorates Abraham’s sacrifice of his son Ishmael in obedience to God.

“[T]he date of the festival is based on the declaration made by Saudi Arabia’s highest religious body,” the Palace said, adding the Oct. 26 was recommended by the National Commission on Muslim Filipinos.

The announcement raises the number of long weekends to four this year, following Proclamation 459 which declared 17 holidays, three of them extending weekends.

Under the Labor department’s pay rules, employees not working on regular holidays are still entitled to 100 percent of their regular daily rate, “provided that they [they were] present, or [were] on leave with pay on the workday immediately preceding the holiday.” SOURCE.

Celebrating 2012 Chinese New Year in Binondo

When we learned that January 23 was declared a non working holiday, we immediately planned on going to Binondo to explore the CNY there. My friends and I pushed through with the plans and we all had so much FUN!

Lunch at the President’s, watched the dragon dance, fireworks, and siomai and siopao takeout. What more could we asked for?

And here’s my souvenir from one of the stores in Ongpin. These are the 3 celestial guardians which according to Feng Shui, will protect me against mishaps and accidents.

I wanted to get more stuff like the charm bracelet charm that I really want so I could wear it wherever I go, but too bad, I didn’t bring cash! Because of my frustration, I’m planning to get a couple of charm bracelets from Bajul Imports. There are a lot of nice pieces in that website. I just hope they ship fast, really FAST!

It was indeed a fun way to celebrate Chinese New Year! Will definitely go back to Ongpin for food tip!

November 29, 2010 is Declared a Holiday

I was ecstatic when I heard that PNoy declared November 29, 2010 as a National Holiday. Here are more details from AbsCbnNews.com…

MANILA, Philippines (UPDATE) – Malacañang has declared November 29, Monday, a regular nonworking holiday in celebration of Bonifacio Day, a radio dzMM report said.

It is the second holiday declared by Malacañang this month and the first to follow former President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo’s policy of holiday economics, which allows the President to move non-religious holidays to the nearest Monday. Bonifacio Day actually falls on November 30, a Tuesday.

In a press briefing, Presidential Communications Secretary Ricky Carandang said Malacañang will be more systematic in declaring holidays. He admitted that some people are confused with the Aquino administration’s policy on holidays since President Benigno Aquino III had said that he would not follow his predecessor’s policy on holiday economics.

Socioeconomic Planning Secretary Cayetano Paderanga, meanwhile, said holiday economics is good for domestic tourism as it allows workers to travel during long weekends.

He said businessmen want a fixed number of holidays every year and that the list of holidays be announced early.

The Palace earlier declared November 16, Tuesday, a National Holiday in celebration of the Islamic religious holiday Eid’l Adha.
