SG/Bintan 2010 Trip: Our Trip to the Night Safari

We initially planned on going to the Singapore Zoo then the Night Safari. BUT, since I was too tired already to push through with out original plan, we opted to go to the Night Safari only. It was a pretty good decision because the kids has so much fun. The fun started when we watched the Fire Show.

Both girls were impressed they didn’t want to eat dinner because they wanted to watch the show first. But it was just short and ended after 10 to 15 minutes. After dinner of hotdog, burger, and chicken nuggets, off we went to the tour. As far as I can remember, we waited in line for more than an hour before we were able to ride the tram. Oh yes, the place was jampacked.

The tram ride only took around 35 minutes but the reaction of the kids were priceless! They were amazed to see real lions, tigers, deers, giraffes, zebras, elephants and more.

IMG_5533

I didn’t they would turn out this excited. But kids really are unpredictable.(*grin*) After the tour, we lined up again for the last show at 10:30PM which is the Creature of the Night show…

Set in a forest clearing, this 20-minute animal presentation will introduce you to nocturnal animals, from the elusive owl to nimble binturongs to intuitive civets. Watch, learn, be entertained and even be part of the act. The show also features a more interactive format where visitors will be drawn into the action. We don’t want to spoil the surprises so be sure to include this in your list of Night Safari things to do!

If you are planning to watch this show, make sure to line up an hour before the show to make sure you get seats. This is on a first come first serve basis. And because admission is not allowed anymore once the show has started. Show times are 7.30pm, 8.30pm, and 9.30pm daily (but this one depends on the weather). There is an additional show at 10.30pm on Fridays, Saturdays and eve of public holidays.

It was an extraordinary experience we will never forget! And I’m definite that kids will always remember this even until they grow up.

SG/Bintan 2010 Trip: The Peninsula Excelsior Hotel

I was surprised to see that the Peninsula Excelsior Hotel was really nice. Considering the price and the location, we got a pretty good deal.

IMG_4732

Since Singapore is a pretty expensive country to go to, I considered getting easy personal loans for our travel expenses. But thanks to Peninsula Excelsior Hotel’s good deals, I was able to save up a few. With this I was able to shop a bit at some shops that I really liked, such as Cotton On and the shops at Bugis Junction.

The Peninsula Excelsior Hotel is located near the City Hall MRT station. That’s why I so love this hotel. MRT was our means of transportation while we were there so everything was very convenient. This is highly recommended!

SG/Bintan 2010 Trip: Jurassic Park Rapids Adventure

I wasn’t able to ride this personally but based on my brothers and sister’s experience, they all had a blast!

Jurassic Park Rapids Adventure is a raft water ride located in The Lost World zone at Universal Studios Singapore in Resorts World Sentosa, Sentosa Island, Singapore. The entire attraction was built from scratch. It uses a river rafting system.Riders start at a station similar to that seen in Jurassic Park River Adventure, where they board 9-person circular rafts.

Here’s the photo of them at the rapids adventure ride that I wanted to send as post cards to friends and family but I didn’t know how to handle the return address labels. I was having second thoughts what the return address would be. And besides, if ever the post card ever comes back, we won’t be at the “return address” anymore.

Good thing they didn’t get so wet during the ride. It definitely was an adventure for all of them!

SG/Bintan 2010 Trip: The Revenge of the Mummy

This ride is probably the most thrilling and scariest ride I’ve ever tried in my life. I’ve been warned actually that this ride is really something! But, still, I wanted to try it for experience sake.

And I didn’t regret my decision because I had a blast. Scared at first, but enjoyed it while it lasted.

Revenge of the Mummy is an indoor steel coaster featured at the Universal Studios Singapore theme park, in the Ancient Egypt Zone. The coaster is based upon the popular Mummy movie franchise directed by Stephen Sommers. The ride was opened on 18 March 2010. The ride is nearly identical to the Orlando version of this attraction, however it includes new sounds and effects, as well as a new ending featuring Imhotep being sealed inside his tomb. Some of the ride’s themeing was provided by Adirondack Studios.

I can say, it was the best rollercoaster ride ever!

SG/Bintan 2010 Trip: Madagascar at USS

The Madagascar area was also our favorite zone thanks to the carousel. Most of the spots here are nice for photo opps too!

IMG_5114

This area features a displaced cargo ship that houses the ‘Madagascar: A Crate Adventure’ ride. This zone also features all the characters from DreamWorks Animations’ Madagascar. Everybody loves this zone. Here are the attracations around the area…

- King Julien’s Beach Party-Go-Round

King Julien, the self-appointed king of the lemurs, knows how to move it, move it, and now he spins guests round and round to the beat of high-energy dance music in this crazy carousel, sure to be a family favorite. At this festive beach scene, King Julien and the Lemurs are throwing a party for their favorite freaks from New York: Alex the Lion, Marty the Zebra, Gloria the Hippo, and Melman the Giraffe.

- Madagascar: A Crate Adventure

Merchandise are sold at Penguins Mercantile and you can dine at the following restaurants…

- Marty’s Casa Del Wild
- Gloria’s Snack Shack

I must say, this is probably the only zone that the kids love aside from the Far, Far Away zone. Even the grandparents love this place.

Still on a Vacation Mode

I don’t know but it’s been almost a month since our vacay but I’m still on a vacation mode. I still can’t think straight. I’m still on holiday mode thinking about our vacation, meeting friends whom I haven’t met last month, and still going out with my family. I don’t know if it’s just me or everyone is still on vacation mode! I’m supposed to find tech jobs for my friend who is in the US but I can’t find the time to do that. Good thing everything is available online, I don’t have to go from one company to another just to find an opening. So at least, I can do my friend a favor while checking out my FB profile or while tweeting. Everything is such a breeze when it comes to the internet. And one of those is the ability to find a good job!

SG/Bintan 2010 Trip: Far, Far Away at the USS

The Far Far Away is our most favorite place in USS! Not only because we watched Shrek movies but also because the place was really magical. The items sold at the shops were really nice and the castle was very comparable to HK Disneyland’s disney castle. Several attractions in this area include:

- Donkey LIVE which was a fun show!
- Magic Potion Spin which is the only shop were we bought USS souvenirs
- Shrek 4D Adventure

IMG_5000

We lined up for more than an hour for this. This one is probably the highlight of our trip to USS. The wait was definitely worth it.

Help save Princess Fiona in a totally in-your-face fairy tale adventure. Through the miracle of OgreVision you’ll see, hear, and actually FEEL the action right from your seat!

Join Princess Fiona, Shrek and Donkey on a honeymoon adventure that picks up where the Oscar-winning movie “Shrek” left off, through an original 3-D film, complete with jumps, bumps, bounces, air blasts and water spray that bring the action to life for each guest- with an extra dimension of special effects through the miracle of OgreVision glasses.

Oh, I would love to watch it again one of these days! That is, if we’re going back to Singapore. LOL!

- Enchanted Airways

The characters would show themselves every hour. And my brother and sister were lucky enough to catch the two…

SG/Bintan 2010 Trip: Had Fun at Universal Studios Singapore (USS)

Going to USS on Holidays is like getting the best ab workout. Lines were soo long you had to wait for more than an hour before you get to ride your favorite ride. Taking photos is also a challenge since lots of people will be included in your photo ops. When you are in USS, you will always be on a rush so you won’t eat decently too. Besides, most of the restaurants only offer burgers, fries, and softdrinks. For me, this isn’t a real meal at all. So that’s why it’s like getting a workout when you are in USS during the Holidays. Here’s a proof …

IMG_4977

Now, I’m sure you already understand what I’m writing about! LOL! But USS is still USS and inspite of that, all of us still had a great time! We got to Resorts World (where USS is) through the MRT. MRT in Singapore is very convenient. Not to mention it’s way cheaper too compared to taking a cab. For the whole duration of our stay, we only got to take the cab twice or thrice and that includes our trip to the airport.

Before 12NN, we were already at USS. We bought tickets online (good thing!). I was surprised that our tickets include SGD5 voucher for food and SGD5 voucher for souvenirs. We had to line up for this though and it took my sister half an hour to get these. But, well, still it was worth it considering that we’re 7pax!

Watch out for more posts about our USS trip, soon!

Keeping My Face Clean While Traveling

I guess that was one of the most challenging thing I did over the holidays while we were traveling as a family. I kept my face clean while in Singapore. Good thing Singapore was so clean, I didn’t have to worry every now and then. I also brought a couple of the best acne products with me to make sure that when I get one, I would know what to do. I didn’t want to spend a day or two looking for my favorite acne treatment lotions! So with that, I was confident. The other things that I made sure I did are the following…

- Wash my face before sleeping
- Didn’t wear too much makeup
- Put on moisturizer
- Used a makeup remover

I was happy when I get home. With my previous travels, I would acnes. This time, I was acne free for 8 whole days!
